Daniel’s Prayer and Fasting Challenge

Prayer and Worship

Daniel’s prayer and fasting lifestyle is found in the book of Daniel. The Daniel’s Prayer and fasting challenge has become a trend in most charismatic Christian churches. It is mostly about learning from Daniel on setting time aside, eating only plant based diet and regularly make an appointment to pray to the Lord just like in the book of Daniel in the bible despite adversities. We will definitely need to talk more about other different types of fasting besides the Daniels fasting such as dry fasting, liquid fasting, intermittent fasting ect in another post.

“Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,” Daniel said

Daniel 1 verse 12 (NLT)

The new year has been dubbed 20 Plenty two (2022) again. For us here at GCO aswell , we started the year off with a bit of a slow pace on our side as we were taking time off to replenish and relook our commitment to servicing kingdom agenda.

Prayer and Fasting

Prayer is a very important part of a believers life, it is a time when we talk to God and worship. In prayer we can pour out our hearts to him and strengthen our relationship with him.

“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes it may happen that our prayer life is interrupted by our busy schedules or even by life’s challenges. My brother or sister let’s make a decision to pray more regularly, for prayer is your direct line to God through faith. Fasting is when we put aside consumption of all or some food while in prayer for a certain period of time. Jesus emphasis that some kinds of situations call for prayer and fasting intervention.

“This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

Mathew 17 verse 21

In the book of Daniel in the bible, although the king at the time had signed the law against praying to God, Daniel ignored this command in obedience to God. He did not allow the pressures from the king to disrupt his prayer life. Instead he continued to pray three times a day as he always had done. Daniel had a disciplined prayer life and bond with God which he was not willing to compromise on. We see that he made up his mind and his heart that he will praise the Lord at all times. We end up seeing him growing from strength to strength in his walk with God despite the many challenges, he was promoted by the very same king. He was able pass through very tough times but he became more courageous each time. God favored him and he was later appointed to the highest office in the land by the king of that time.

What happens at New Years prayers?

At most new years prayer and fasting’s, we celebrate the new year firstly thanking God Almighty. Then pray concerning their families, concerns in life, all their goals, visions, and church projections for the new year in ministry. Its a prayer to also receive guidance, direction, inspiration, ideas, innovations, and the word of God we need to set us on course. It is a time to let our spirit be attentive and sensitive to receive all that the Lord has in store for us and be inspired by the Word of God and empowered by Holy Spirit.
