Should Christians have Easter or Passover celebrations? Well From the April 14 to the 17th of this year, a billion or more people who identify with the Christian faith will celebrate what is popularly known as the Easter Weekend. These public holidays are celebrated and themed with the Easter bunny & eggs decorations which many have become accustomed to. Which ones should Christians really keep? As Christians we should celebrate Passover as the bible says not Easter which is just another marketing gimmick. Here is how Passover originated.
Passover is derived from the event when the Lord passed over the houses of the Israelite and spared them from the death of their firstborn (Exodus 12:13). Jesus Christ is now our Passover (I Corinthians 5:7). Like a lamb without blemish, Jesus was offered as a sin sacrifice. He died for our sins as the ultimate act of love for humanity.
The Passover can be found both in the Old and New Testament (Exodus 23:15-18; Leviticus 23:4-8; Numbers 9:2-5; Deuteronomy 16:1-8 and in the new Testament it is mentioned in Mark 14:12; Luke 22:7; Acts 12:3; I Corinthians 5:8).
