Dumi Mkokstad Shaking Things Up at Big Zulu Celebrity Soccer Games
Dumi Mkodstad’s ‘Yima Wooh’, DJ Tira’s ‘ waze wamkhulu Dumi’ and Thinah Zungu holy Beef made the trend list on Social media this July.
This was after the celebrity soccer games where the Maskandi team was up against Hip-hop, captained by Khuzani and Big Zulu respectively, then the Gqom team – captained by Dj Tira took on the Gospel team, led by Dumi Mkokstad that were held at Tsakane Stadium in Eastrand were disrupted.

So, the socials were a buzz after an argument broke out, here’s what happened.
The first matches were played successfully and the problem came when it was time for the final match that would be broadcast on the national TV on SABC Sports.
Big Zulu was not happy with gospel singer Dumi Mkokstad’s behavior during the last edition of his celebrity soccer tournament for 2024.
The event, featuring gqom, gospel, maskandi and hip-hop artists playing a friendly soccer game, saw Big Zulu and Dumi get into a heated argument at Tsakane Stadium sidelines. The argument was over DJ Tira including professional players in his team and winning instead of amateur players for his gqom team.
More on SABC Soccer Live Final Game Cancellation
After Dumi Mkokstad and his team of gospel singers lost the game to the gqom team, Dumi refused to let the tournament continue to the finals. Andile Ncube quickly switched to an advert break to save SABC Sports time as the final TV game was cancelled when no agreement was reached.
Big Zulu expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s not fair, especially for my fans who came out in numbers to support them. In soccer, you can’t just sit on the field and refuse to leave.”
Big Zulu further retaliated saying that last year, Dumi brought professional players in his gospel team and won the tournament, but they didn’t stop the games. Now, Big Zulu & Khuzani were unsure if they want to continue the tournament next if they have to deal with artists who don’t respect the concept of celebrity games.
How the holy Beef started involving Dumi and Thinah
Thinah Zungu, who was on Dumi’s gospel team, also said there was no reason for them to refuse to leave the field and expanded on this reasoning on his Facebook page.
Thinah highlighted that the game was supposed to be about artists having fun, so some of Dumi’s actions were disappointing, especially for the gospel team and fans.
Things got worse when Big Zulu and DJ Tira argued with Dumi on live TV. After people on social media criticized Dumi’s behavior and Big Zulu asking for them to be canceled, Dumi defended himself and Big Zulu apologized.
Dumi said, “As a football player, I respect the sport and its rules. Rules are rules! The gqom team broke two rules today and won unfairly. The rules say you can only have one of the above players, not all of them. The team must field a lady in the team.”

Later, Big Zulu later apologized to Dumi on Instagram saying, “For those who were offended by me calling Dumi a boy or “umfana”, please forgive me.” He apologized to Dumi, his family, his fans, the tournament attendees, and those who watched on TV, acknowledging that many mistakes were made.
Dumi Mkokstad and Thina Zungu also made peace citing bible verses to put an end to what was dubbed the holy beef on TikTok by their fans. They both posted pictures of each other in their socials and fans were happy after seeing them reconcile despite their different views on the celebrity soccer games.
Let’s hope they can sort this out the rules of the celebrity soccer tournament and bring back the fun next time!
