Bishop Nkambule Becomes Executive Producer for Zanele’s Crown Gospel Music Awards Legacy
The 17th edition of the Crown Gospel Music Awards will proceed this year as planed for 2024. On the 10th of September 2024 the World Gospel Powerhouse team held a press briefing announcing the way forward. The bishop Nkambule has been announced as the Crown Gospel Music Awards’ executive producer.
The came after the founder and executive producer of the gospel awards Mbokazi-Nkambule had recently passed away at the Netcare Parklands Hospital in Durban due to battle with lung cancer a month ago.

The Crowns nominees process is currently opened for the various gospel music categories and will close on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The Crown Gospel Music Awards ceremony itself will take place on November 24, 2024, at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, keeping in line with the usual schedule.
Honoring His Late Wife’s Zanele Mbokazi’s Legacy
BISHOP Mpendulo Nkambule’s set to take over the job his late wife, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule.
Speaking about the awards , the Bishiop said that this year’s award ceremony, the focus will be on celebrating the legacy of the late Zanele. Zanele’s husband promised to carry on the same high standards she upheld for gospel music artists. His goal? To make this year’s awards the most unforgettable and impactful music event in South Africa.
“We, as the Crown Gospel Music Awards board, are dedicated to maintaining the high standards Zanele set during her leadership. We recognize the incredible legacy she left behind, and we’re committed to building on it and taking it even further,” he shared.

Bishop Nkambule also took the time to express deep gratitude for the continuous support from the awards’ sponsors and partners. The contributions Sponsors and Partners play a key role in making the event a success and promoting South African talent. Bishop Nkambule confirmed they’ve secured sponsorship from the Gauteng government but also encouraged private companies to come on board, emphasizing that gospel music has a healing power for everyone.
Plans for the Future
Bishop Nkambule mentioned that their contract with the Gauteng government is renewed annually. While this year’s event will take place in Gauteng, they’re open to hosting it in any province next year, as the awards have grown into a national event.

The press briefing had several notable attendees, including Nonjabulo Mdluli who is Zanele’s niece, and gospel musicians like Pastor Andile KaMajola, Phindi P, and Siphumelele Mbambo.
International Gospel Musicians Invited to Participate
In exciting news for gospel artists worldwide, the awards are now open to international gospel musicians with African roots. Artists from the US and Europe can compete in the ‘Best of Africa Gospel’ category. Submissions are open until October 10, 2024.
