Bazalwane can we talk about the church of today for a minute. The country has been talking ever since pictures and video’s of people eating snakes, grass, flowers and drinking petrol recently emerged and circulated all over social networks, newpapers and news channels. Nathi as the church we have seen them and by church I mean the body of Christ or group of believers in God regardless of denominations. These reports sparked an outcry from many believers and non-believers in the country. Many rebuked the pastor who instructed people to do this while others shamed all those who participated calling them foolish.
Just a while ago many believers were still debating the popular trend of the “Prosperity Gospel” in churches and then there was the notorious debate of “anointing oil and bottled holy water” that made many question the doctrine behind such practices in Christianity. Now there seems to be a new trend of miracle workers who use unconventional methods in an attempt to demonstrate God’s power. I have read what is said in the papers and have seen video clips that suggest that all this evil but I feel like as the church we atleast owe it to our fellow Christians to hear them out, hear their side of the story before we hang them like the world. Why they are doing this and why they feel it is inline with Christianity in their view. We were advised to by John [1 John 4:1-3] not to just believe but test every spirit and I think this should apply before judging from video clip and photos.
