Kelly Khumalo Drama Crown Gospel Music Awards Responds
First time gospel nominee Kelly Khumalo was not shy to express her dis-satisfaction over the outcomes of the 13th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards winners. โEsiphambanweniโ by Kelly Khumalo where she features gospel great; Hlengiwe Mhlaba was nominated for the Best Gospel Song category at the 2020 Crown Gospel Music Awards. This year’s nominee Kelly Khumalo felt short changed by the awards and took to twitter too complain to her fans about the alleged corruptions.
The category of best Gospel Song has been highly contested over the years and gospel artists usually go all out to campaign for votes from the public. On the night of the gospel awards Canaan Nyathi was announced as the winner for his song โBaba Zivezeโ.ย The announcement did not sit well with Kelly who felt that her or someone else deserved the award not the Baba ziveze hit maker Canaan Nyathi.
The SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards later released a statement about the winners after Kelly Khumalo trended on social media. The management of the awards insists that the Canaan Nyathi announcement was valid and backed by votes and not just by social standing.
