Dumi Mkokstad took to Facebook to share a short story about the hit single “Wena nkosi uyazi” by Jumbo. It is beautiful to see South African gospel artist uniting and supporting each other.
One thing about Jumbo is that as a gospel artist he is consistent at pushing boundaries for himself. Jumbo’s gospel hit “Wena Nkosi Uyazi” took home the award for best gospel song at the Crown Gospel Music Award last year and has been topping charts. It was included in the biggest countdown chart show in South Africa on new years eve which is voted for by the listeners. In the heart warming social media post Dumi Mkodstad congratulated his friend and fellow musician. This is what Dumi had to say;
Wena Nkosi uYazi (JUMBO) on UKHOZI FM TOP 10 2021.
Last year around this time (festive season) Jumbo came to me and said “mntwana” (boy), yazi ,I think kumele sizame ukuphusha sisebenze kanzima (we must try to push and work hard) so that we will have a song nathi yeGOSPEL that will compete for SONG OF THE YEAR kuKHOZI FM.
It seemed as if uJumbo kodwa(however) didn’t think it would be Him. But maybe me or thina sobabili (both of us). What I love is that he spoke a word kanti uNkulunkulu uyaMuzwa (but God was listening).
I’m just here to say Jumbo Nyangiwe I am so so so proud of you. Akekho uMculi weGOSPEL osake waba (No other gospel artist has ever been ) unumber 2 kwiTOP 10 yoKHOZI except for the late GREAT “Sfiso Ncwane” well and Isdudla THOBEKILE (Wonderful day).
Jumbo is the Youngest Artists who has achieveded this huge milestone.
History of other gospel songs on the final top 10 count down:
